11/25/2023 0 Comments Classic doctor who episodes onlineBest of all, it had Troughton in two roles, double fun for Whovians. Highlight: Set in the futuristic year of 2018 (can you imagine what that will be like?), "The Enemy Of The World" was actually missing and unseen for many years until its recovery in 2013 (found in Africa, incredibly). Starring: Patrick Troughton (the second Doctor), Deborah Watling (Victoria Waterfield), Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon), and Wendy Padbury (Zoe Heriot). Professor Zaroff (Character) has gone down in infamy with the delivery of the line, “Nothing in ze vorld can stop me now!" Also, the Fish People look like Blue Peter competition entries. Lowlight: The Underwater Menace wasn’t quite a menace. We’ll see some scenes from this four-parter recreated in the forthcoming Christmas special. Highlight: Hartnell’s closing story "The Tenth Planet" introduced the Cybermen to the world. In a nutshell: The first regeneration takes place just two stories into the new season (although they don’t actually refer to it as a ”regeneration”) and we have a new, more spritely Doctor. Starring: William Hartnell (the first Doctor), Anneke Wills (Polly), Michael Craze (Ben), Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon), Deborah Watling (Victoria Waterfield), and Patrick Troughton (the Second Doctor) Lowlight: Peter Davison limping round Amsterdam (actual Amsterdam, they really filmed there) with green Rice Krispies on his face wasn’t a moment to revisit. Highlight: Twentieth anniversary story "The Five Doctors" was a joyous celebration of all things Who. In a nutshell: Davison’s sophomore year didn’t quite live up to its predecessor, although it did include a trilogy of connected stories featuring the return of the Black Guardian (last seen in "The Key To Time" series – see No16). Starring: Peter Davison (as the fifth Doctor), Janet Fielding (Tegan), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa) and Mark Strickson (Turlough). Thankfully, all but one of its episodes are missing so you won’t be seeing it any time soon. Lowlight: "The Space Pirates" plods along drearily for six episodes despite a neat conceit. Highlight: The Cybermen emerging from manholes and marching in front of St Paul’s Cathedral are deliciously eye-catching moments ("The Invasion"). In a nutshell: Troughton’s time comes to an end with an epic ten-part finale where we meet, for the first time, his own people, the Time Lords. Starring: Patrick Troughton (the second Doctor), Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon) and Wendy Padbury (Zoe Heriot). Other than that, "The Greatest Show In The Galaxy" is quite a decent tale. Lowlight: McCoy does some magic while over-pronouncing his "R"s in front of three gods. Very pacey and a lot of fun, its Sixties setting is recreated wonderfully. Highlight: Twenty fifth anniversary story "Remembrance Of The Daleks" is a corker. In a nutshell: After a duff start, McCoy starts to shine. Starring: Sylvester McCoy (the seventh Doctor) and Sophie Aldred (Ace). It’s like no one saw it before deciding it was fit for television. Lowlight: "Timelash" was so extraordinarily bad that we won’t bore you with the details. Highlight: Doctor Who anticipated reality television in the satirical and, at times, Shakespearean, "Vengeance On Varos". A real up and down (mainly the latter) of a season that was as brash and as arrogant as the Doctor’s awful multi-coloured coat. In a nutshell: The epitome of Eighties excess.
